Tunbridge Ware Table Box
Victorian walnut Tunbridge ware jewellery/table box c.1870. The lid is crrossbanded with harewood and boxwood and this decoration continues down the front edges of the box. The centre has a mother-of-pearl diamond shape inlay and this is surrounded by various woods including holly, harewood, ash, coromandel and yew inlaid in a tumbling block design. A similar tumbling block design surrounds the escutcheon. The inside has been relined with a hand-marbled paper ready for many years of use.
